This time of year, the colors of our great American flag can be found everywhere you look — including on our food. Much like any other holiday, food is the central focus on the 4th of July, and red, white, and blue recipes dominate practically every family’s barbeque and picnic.
And while there are abundance of 4th of July dessert recipes for you to enjoy, not all of them are healthy sweets. Many come packed with calories, but whoever said that healthy can’t be delicious has clearly never tried these Red, White, and Blue Brownie Parfaits, courtesy of Delish.
Learn how to make these healthy sweets below:
Ingredients (makes 6 servings):
- 1 ½ cups heavy cream
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 18 oz. cream cheese
- 2 cups brownie, diced
- 10 oz. raspberries
- 6 oz. blueberries
Directions:
- Cut up either store-bought or pre-made brownies into tiny squares.
- In a large bowl, combine heavy cream and granulated sugar using a hand-held mixer. Beat on high until soft peaks hold.
- In a separate bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy. Fold cream cheese into whipped cream. Transfer the mixture to a plastic bag with a corner cut off.
- Assemble glasses with alternating layers of cream, brownie and fruit. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.
Staying Safe While Enjoying 4th of July Dessert Recipes
While snacking on healthy and delicious red, white, and blue recipes, it’s important to remember to stay safe, especially if your family is planning on enjoying a picnic outdoors.
Summer’s intense heat can cause serious medical emergencies, such as heat stroke, but there are ways you can ensure your safety in the sun. Drinking plenty of water, picnicking in a shady spot, and wearing a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses are all ways that you can prevent sun damage this 4th of July.
Bringing your portable Mobile Guardian medical alert device with you is another way to stay safe this holiday. Whether you’re celebrating at home with loved ones or outside at a picnic, our 24/7 Monitoring Center will be able to send help to your location, ensuring your independence every day of the year.
