When it comes to aging and independence, many people have misconceptions about how the two can co-exist. And while some may think that aging is synonymous with being homebound and curmudgeonly, the truth of the matter is that more often than not, seniors are out in the world achieving some incredible things.

And even those who are not running marathons or going skydiving are able to stay connected to their independence in other ways. In fact, in a survey of current Medical Guardian clients, nearly 53% of respondents said that they exercise regularly in order to retain their feeling of independence as they age, 57% associate independent senior living with cooking for themselves, and 63% said they feel like an independent senior when they are out socializing with friends.

While seeing the numbers behind the data is compelling, it is really even more powerful to read how our Medical Guardian clients define what it means to be an independent senior in their own words.

Independence is…

“Being able to do the chores I do every day and not worrying that I could fall. The necklace is around my neck and I just keep going. I haven’t fallen yet. I used to avoid my yard because I was afraid of accidents happening, but not anymore! Now I have peace of mind.”

-Charmaine

“I can do what I want and go where I want whenever I want. And Medical Guardian allows me to move around my apartment whenever I choose.”

-Don

“The feeling of knowing that I have help whenever I need it. I can travel, take a bath, move through my home and feel confident. Once I was diagnosed, I felt unsure of my abilities to live freely. What a precious gift to know that I can press the button on my wrist and have help. My family and friends feel this blessed assurance that they don’t have to worry about me, and I feel the same.”

-Anita

“Staying in my home. Getting to keep my dogs of 11 years. Peace of mind. Freedom, which for me means not having to answer to anybody. Reading. Cooking or not cooking if I don’t want. And spending time with friends and family. I feel safe now knowing you are there for me.”

-Marilyn

“Independence means everything, freedom to move, freedom to go, freedom to play with my grandchildren. Just knowing someone is there to help at the press of a button, makes me feel better everyday.”

-Esther

Nothing To Fear With Medical Guardian
