  2. Spend time with the kids. For most older adults, family time is always time well-spent. If you have any grandchildren, you know that keeping up with them can be a lot of work, but it’s also a great way to work up a sweat. Take them for a picnic in the park for the day, or find another activity you can all enjoy together. Your local community center or parks and recreation department is bound to have plenty of ideas.
  3. Take up a sport. There’s nothing wrong with bringing out a bit of your competitive side! Not only is it a great way to get some exercise, but playing sports is also a great way to socialize with others. Swimming, golf, hiking and bocce are all great low-impact exercises you can enjoy with others. Again, check your community center for any senior leagues.
  4. Do some work around the house. Not all of us may be huge fans of doing chores, but basic chores like vacuuming, cleaning windows and washing dishes burn a lot of calories. Although these tasks may seem mundane, they’re a lot better for your health than watching endless hours of TV.
  5. Enjoy your favorite (and beneficial) activities. You may even already be doing some exercise without even realizing it! Do you like to garden? Gardening for 45 minutes can burn up to 200 calories. Do you enjoy sightseeing? Take a nature walk and boost your mental health. Some other great outdoor exercises for seniors are swimming, yoga, tai chi and cycling.
